Why VALMASI?

I want better fitting scrubs for those who work in medicine and other health related fields. Those women who are tired sacrificing fit in the waist in order to fit the hips. Valmasi was created for women who still have fit issues despite the introduction of ‘curvy’ and plus sizes. I want you to feel there is something special and unique like you. We all know diamonds are special; diamond in Swahili is ‘almasi’. Valmasi was born for all of you.

Many years ago, I went to a large chain clothing store and tried on a single 5 pocket denim skirt. I tried on 4 different sizes from 4 to 10 and NONE OF THEM FIT PROPERLY. I weighed about 135lbs; I knew something was wrong. There was something lacking in women’s sizes. While I did not act on this immediately, I remembered the experience for many years.

Once the COVID 19 pandemic hit, many physicians who were not wearing scrubs on a regular basis started wearing them. I pulled out my ill-fitting unisex scrubs from residency.

They were still ill-fitting. Buying more up to date scrubs addressed the problem with women wearing unisex scrubs but I still found myself wanting a better fit. I realized if I was not pleased, there are other women with the same fit issues. My scrubs were snug at the hips and mid-thigh but when I bought a larger size that fit my hips, it was too loose in the waist.

Women with large breasts told me their scrub tops were too snug across the bust line or at the armhole.

Here at Valmasi, we want to expand the choices on the size chart to make it more inclusive.

All size mediums are not shaped the same. If you still have fit issues, I hope that my scrubs will help your fit challenges.
